Narratives for Change

Narratives for Change was formed out out the Coalition for Transforming School Safety in 2023. They have focused on ending hazing, harassment, and bullying in schools. They seek to raise awareness about the impact of these negative behaviors and advocate for positive change within schools statewide. We believe that by sharing collective stories, we can create connections and validation that support a healing process for affected students.

Narratives for Change Report

The Education Justice Coalition and Outright Vermont, through the Coalition for Transforming School Safety, released Narratives for Change: Bridging the Gap Between Policy and Practice, a policy brief highlighting key findings and recommendations from research examining hazing, harassment, and bullying in Vermont schools. An accompanying executive summary provides a concise overview of the report findings and recommendations. Together, these resources offer policymakers and school leaders actionable information to strengthen prevention, improve responses to harm, and advance safer, more inclusive schools across Vermont.

Produced through the Narratives for Change initiative, the research project examines the prevalence, patterns, and impacts of hazing, harassment and bullying (HHB) in Vermont schools and, critically, how effectively schools and existing systems respond when students experience harm.

Narratives for Change Workshop Series

Outright Vermont and the Education Justice Coalition of Vermont will be offering monthly workshops Oct. 2026-May 2027. These workshops are for students, educators, and community members who want to create safer and more inclusive schools. All workshops will be 4-6pm on Zoom.
