Our vision We envision collective liberation for all people and a state in which Indigenous, Black, People of Color, Disability, Immigrant and LGBTQIA+ peoples can thrive in a culture of belonging that is free of bias, discrimination, and oppression. Our mission To promote justice for all students in the Vermont education system through organizing, building community power, and developing and promoting Ethnic studies, Disability studies, Native American Studies, and LGBTQIA+ curriculum and pedagogy. Our values We believe that the internal work that we do as a coalition, how we are together, reflects the quality and transformative potential of the external work we do. This is why we center values in how we show up with each other and how we do our work. Our collective values are: Radical Inclusivity: We don’t leave youth or any people impacted by oppression behind. We believe that when stories are silenced, we can’t do the work. Humanity: We believe in the humanity, genius, and dignity of all people. Everyone has a right to show up as their whole authentic self and to pursue self-determination and self-empowerment.Growth: We are still learning and value education as a path to collective liberation.Joy: We celebrate and make space for all of who we are. Truth: We see and name the truth recognizing the complexity of multiple truths and approaching challenges with curiosity.Transformation: We imagine worlds that don’t exist and work to build towards them. Liberatory Culture: We believe in process over product, centering relationships in our work, and acknowledging that what each member brings is enough. We embrace creativity, joy, and care.Community & Personal Healing: We call upon our ancestral wisdom. We care for and rely on our intergenerational community knowing that we’re stronger together.
