Support Trans Student Athletes

Outright VT, has organized a call to action in support of trans student athletes. We’re here to stand in solidarity and uplift their message:

Recently, a Christian school girls basketball team refused to play a championship game against an opponent with a transgender student athlete. This has then led to a barrage of transphobic media coverage and transphobic targeting of the youth and the school. This is another wake-up call for Vermont and a chance to mobilize and be clear that trans student athletes are protected and valued in Vermont.

Support trans student athletes. More information before.

The Vermont Principals' Association has issued a press release in support of trans student athletes and has scheduled an Executive Council meeting for March 13th to discuss the school who refused to play.

How you can show your support:

  1. Send an email with public comment to Jay Nichols, the VPA Executive Director at jnichols@vpaonline.org urging the VPA to take further action.

  2. Talk to peers, colleagues and students about the positive impacts of sports, the negative impacts of discrimination, and the rights of all people to safety and dignity. Use Outright’s talking points as a guide.

All students can thrive when legal protections for LGBTQ+ youth are upheld. Let's make sure the VPA and the community hears from as many people as possible that inclusion matters!
